On The Sidewalk Bleeding free essay sample
On The Sidewalk Bleeding is a short story by Evan Hunter. This short story is about a youngster called Andy who is a piece of a posse. To others a posse part is the thing that Andy is known as, with the exception of from his sweetheart Laura. Andy gets into waste time with an adversary group minutes in the wake of leaving his home. This experience and circumstance Andyââ¬â¢s been left in has made him consider his actual personality and his fundamental focusââ¬â¢ throughout everyday life. Imagery in this short story is viable to make it additionally fascinating, individual personality is a primary subject. Andyââ¬â¢s coat obviously implied a great deal to him as it had his name on his group coat which filled him with satisfaction of being a Royal. ââ¬Å"The boyââ¬â¢s name was Andy and the name was carefully scripted operating at a profit string on the facade of the coat. The name scripted over Andyââ¬â¢s heart on the coat shows the significance of Andyââ¬â¢s job in the posse and how pleased it makes him. We will compose a custom exposition test on On the Sidewalk Bleeding or then again any comparable point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page It shows that he is genuinely given and faithful to the Royals. I believe that Andy has totally overlooked his actual personality and how others around him see him. I likewise donââ¬â¢t think he understands how much difficulty he has hauled himself into. Andyââ¬â¢s sweetheart Laura is the main individual to know the genuine enthusiastic and individual side of him. What Andy doesnââ¬â¢t acknowledge is the manner by which the others around him see him, they consider him to be a hooligan and a peril to the lanes which causes them to have no compassion towards Andy and posses. The specific setting Evan Hunter has utilized ties in impeccable on the fundamental characters circumstance. It soundââ¬â¢s awful and hopeless as Andy is spread along the walkway vulnerable and unconscious of how genuine the circumstance he is as of now in. ââ¬Å"He lay on the walkway with the March downpour boring his coat and penetrating his body and washing ceaselessly the blood that poured from his open injury. â⬠Helpless and unfit to move while the night storm shower you sounds alarming and gives a sentiment of compassion towards Andy and his circumstance. Just a couple of moments prior he had a real existence, a sweetheart, companions and a road status. Presently he is simply left injured and secluded. He wasnââ¬â¢t cut in view of what his identity was; he was cut as a result of what he spoke to. This is the reason I feel thoughtful towards Andy. The incongruity is extremely solid in this short story as the creator causes us to have compassion toward Andy as he has numerous experiences with individuals and open doors for help that totally reverse discharges on him. ââ¬Å"I got a decent brain to call a cop. â⬠ââ¬Å"Andy gestured. Indeed, he attempted to state. Truly, call a cop. If it's not too much trouble call one. The alcoholic character is uninformed that Andy is in a lot of torment and accept that he is additionally inebriated because of Andy stuck on the ground like a crushed biting gum so he at that point takes steps to call the police however then wavers and demands he is helping Andy by not pushing him into difficulty when truly Andy frantically needs assistance as he is dealing with the reality he is injured. The alcoholic at that point falters away leaving Andy feeling vulnerable and consider the circumstance he is in. This causes me to feel thoughtful towards Andy because of his bombed possibility of finding support. Being in the Royals caused Andy to feel predominant and as though he had power. Through the story we witness Andy experience his assessment on being a pack part and the way of life he lives. ââ¬Å"Even in his torment, there had been a type of pride in realizing he was a Royal. Presently there was no pride by any means. â⬠Andy takes some real time to contemplate what life would resemble without the pack in question and how he would have an existence with his sweetheart, Laura. Realizing his time left was uncommon and with next to no vitality left Andy understood the circumstance he is in is a direct result of being an individual from the Royals. In the event that he didnââ¬â¢t wear the coat that expressed he was a group part then Andy could as of now be with his better half Laura, with full wellbeing and a real existence to live. With the last piece of solidarity in his body; Andy removed his coat and flung it aside, trusting he wouldnââ¬â¢t be recognized as only a posse part when he was dead. The short story On The Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter is a shocking tale about a youngster experiencing an intense second in his life. It was weird that circumstance can happen whenever in my reality. I thought it was extremely fascinating seeing Andyââ¬â¢s sentiment change on something that once implied critical to him.

The Barn free essay sample
At the point when my grandparents presented giving me my very own pony, I attempted to work out an exchange. My Papa had quite recently educated me regarding the way that on the off chance that I had a pony, I would be liable for taking care of it, practicing it, messing its slow down, and the entirety of different errands that mark the life of an equestrian. ââ¬Å"Well, Papa,â⬠I started in my best adult voice, ââ¬Å"I was believing that I would be the coach, you know? So Iââ¬â¢d get the opportunity to work and train the ponies, and youââ¬â¢d get the chance to do the taking care of and messing slows down and stuff.â⬠As delighted as my Nana and Papa were by this recommendation, they didnââ¬â¢t give it an excessive amount of thought. Throughout the previous fourteen years of my life, I have been a glad and upbeat slow down mucker. It didnââ¬â¢t take long for me to get into the daily schedule of ascending before the sun each morning, tossing on a couple of boots and a coat, and advancing languidly out to the horse shelter. We will compose a custom paper test on The Barn or on the other hand any comparable theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page The horse shelter has been remaining in our lawn for such a long time that I canââ¬â¢t even recall what the property resembled without it. It was worked by my Papa and a portion of his companions when I was only an infant, and however itââ¬â¢s required a couple of touch-ups and fixes throughout the years, it is as yet a similar recognizable, inviting spot in which I spent such a large amount of my youth. Similarly as the remainder of my home, little leftovers of my Papaââ¬â¢s life are wherever in the animal dwellingplace. Despite the fact that he spent away nine years prior, I can nearly observe his face each time I go here and there the steps to the storehouse. The steps are a consequence of his handicraft, and the reason for some contorted lower legs and ââ¬Å"close callsâ⬠of tumbling down the steps. They start with four stages, at that point a bit of landing, at that point a more drawn out arrangement of steps opposite to the principal set. The issue is that the principal set of steps are gracelessly near one another, similar to they were worked for a little kid or maybe a diminutive person. The second arrangement of steps is a remarkable inverse, with such a great amount of room between every step that you need to lift your knees up to your chest to rise them. ââ¬Å"Gives ââ¬Ëem character,â⬠my Papa used to state when Nana or I would whine about his carpentry. Obviously, at whatever point he needed to utilize the steps himself, each progression was joined by a beautiful slew of condemnations. I took in another assortment of jargon during my time spent at the stable a generous blend of ââ¬Å"horse lingoâ⬠and swears. Obviously, this wasnââ¬â¢t the main thing that I got the hang of, growing up as a ââ¬Å"horse kid.â⬠I was really scared by ponies when I was more youthful. The sheer size of them made me somewhat uncomfortable. Presently Iââ¬â¢m the sort of individual who takes a gander at the biggest of draft ponies and broadcasts, ââ¬Å"Well arenââ¬â¢t you just adorable!â⬠When I started my obligations as a ââ¬Å"horse owner,â⬠I imagined that pony compost was nauseating, and 5am appeared to be a crazy time for any animal to require food, horse or not. In any case, it wasnââ¬â¢t some time before hungry pony whinnies turned into my preferred sort of good-mornings, and I found that nothing could brighten me up like a fluffy horse kiss. Cleaning a few slows down wasnââ¬â¢t almost such an errand as cleaning my own room, and little hooves against the solid horse shelter floor delivered a more lovely stable than any music I had ever heard. The main thing thatââ¬â¢s changed about my animal dwellingplace from that point forward are the ponies who live in it. The stable right now houses four ponies, one of which is mine. In any case, we have had upwards of seven ponies one after another. My Nana has been known to change over the attach space to a pony slow down to suit her assortment of ponies (ââ¬Å"A tack room is an extravagance; itââ¬â¢s similarly as simple to keep the attach the yard and put a pony in there!â⬠). According to my observation, we have had somewhere close to fifteen and twenty ponies throughout the years, every one of whom has added to the horse shelter somehow or another. A while ago when we had our first pregnant female horse, we concluded that we required a foaling slow down and an a framework to screen it. Right up 'til today, one of our slows down remains recognizably bigger than the remainder of them, and there is a camcorder that investigates the slow down and attaches to our TV. We had a steed who got a kick out of the chance to raise up and flaunt for the female horses in the animal dwellingplace, and we were worried about the possibility that that he would stall out over the entryway. In spite of the fact that we havenââ¬â¢t had a steed in quite a while now, there stays a lot of bars that can be established over the slow down entryway, similarly as a precautionary measure. Significantly more than each pony has had an effect on the stable, the outbuilding has had an effect on me. I esteem things contrastingly as a result of the time that Iââ¬â¢ve spent at the horse shelter, and have figured out how to welcome the little things throughout everyday life. Being an equestrian has instructed me to think and react quickly, be versatile, have tolerance, and follow what I need throughout everyday life. I have increased a feeling of authority, certainty, and classic presence of mind that I donââ¬â¢t figure I could have accomplished anyplace else. The animal dwellingplace has remained steadfast against wind, downpour, sun, and snow for whatever length of time that I can recollect. Inside those dividers, it houses four ponies, however my biography. Bits of my history are dispersed about like dandelion seeds in the breeze. Bits of who I am can be discovered lying in the base of the brush can, settled between parcels of roughage, laced into a horseââ¬â¢s mane. The animal dwellingplace speaks to my past, incorporates my present, and is something that I expectation will remain everlastingly in my future.

How to Make Sure Your Sources Are Legit - EasyBib blog
How to Make Sure Your Sources Are Legit - EasyBib blog (9) by Amanda Clark You just got the assignment: the infamous end-of-year research paper. Your teacher, Mrs. Citey, is a stickler when it comes to bibliographies, and youâre nervous because you donât know where to find legit sources. The internet is a wealth of information, but that also makes it hard to weed out the bad sites from the good. Weâre here to help! Itâs easy to make sure your sources are credible by keeping these four questions in mind. (But first, make sure you know: what is a bibliography?) Who wrote it? This sounds simple enough, but today, even a 13-year-old can write a post about a topic you might be researching and post it on his personal blog. Which is great for him, but not for your research paper. Pay special attention to the credibility of the author. You can even Google them to find out about their background and expertise. You might discover that your author teaches at a credible university or has an advanced degree in the topicâ"sweet! But you also might find that your author wrote the article as a hobby after playing video games and hasnât even graduated from middle school. (Or worse, plagiarized all of the content.) Is it a primary or secondary source? This next question may take you back to a sixth-grade social studies class, when you learned the differences between primary and secondary sources. That was probably a while ago, so letâs review. A primary source provides first-hand evidence about a topic in the form of a diary entry, letter, artifact or another direct source. A secondary source describes or analyzes primary sources. Examples of secondary sources include a history textbook, a journal article, or your own research paper. Primary sources add credibility to your paper but are sometimes difficult to find. You can still use secondary sources, but you have to be more wary of where they come from. Itâs easier to trust a diary entry from George Washington than a random site listing his personal achievements. Primary sources require a little more digging, but theyâll add an impressive entry to that stellar works cited page or bibliography in the making. What is the domain? We live in an overpopulated internet world of .coms, where anyone can buy a domain for $9.99 a year. Although this phenomenon has multiplied the amount of information available, it also has made it more difficult to make sure your sources are legitimate. Credible domains to look for are .gov and.edu, which are domains reserved for national institutions and the government. This does not mean that all .com, .net, and .org domains are unreliable, but anyone with a few bucks can buy a website with these endings. You just need to evaluate these sites more carefully. For more information on top-level domains, click here. Is it biased? Biased sources tend to state opinions instead of concrete facts. They also have few, if any, credible sources backing up their claims. Sometimes, though, biased sources are tricky to spot. As you examine the website, ask questions like: Is it affiliated with a credible organization such as a university website, or published by a popular tabloid website? Does it references other sources you can check to verify its claims? Is the main purpose of the website to sell you something? For example, letâs say youâre researching Chinese medicine. An article that links to the websiteâs own miracle supplement is not a credible source. Also, pay particular attention to the emotion of the article. Does it seem like the writer is trying to persuade you to take action with something (join their organization, sign a petition, etc.)? Although this is not always a bad scenario, sites like these do not belong in your research paper. If you keep these questions in mind while conducting your research, Mrs. Citey will be impressedâ"and gratefulâ"when she grades your legit paper. You can learn even more about evaluating sources for credibility here. And donât forget the properly formatted citations for your vetted-and-approved sources! For that, thereâs EasyBibâs easy citation generator, where you can cite in MLA style, APA, Chicago style format and more.

6 Tips for Writing About Live Events
Writing about live events such as meetings, press conferences, and speeches can be tricky even for seasoned reporters. Such events are often unstructured and even a bit chaotic, and the reporter, on deadline, has to make sense of what happened and present it in a story that has structure, order, and meaning. Not always easy. Here are some basic dos and donts for good reporting of live events: Find Your Lede The lede of a live event story should center on the most newsworthy and interesting thing that occurs at that event. Sometimes thats obvious: If a congressional leader announces a vote to raise income taxes, chances are thats your lede. But if its not clear to you whats most important, or even what just happened, after the event interview knowledgeable people who can give you insight and perspective. It may be something you didnt even fully understand or a combination of a few things. Dont be afraid to ask. Avoid Ledes That Say Nothing Whatever the storyââ¬âeven a boring one, and sometimes those happenââ¬âfind a way to write an interesting lede. The Centerville City Council met last night to discuss the budget does not pass muster, nor does, A visiting expert on dinosaurs gave a talk last night at Centerville College. Your lede should give readers specific information about something interesting, important, funny, or catchy that happened or was said. For example, Members of the Centerville town council argued bitterly last night over whether to cut services or raise your taxes. Or, A giant meteorite was probably responsible for the extinction of dinosaurs 65 million years ago, an expert said last night at Centerville College. See the difference? If absolutely nothing of interest happened, you write a brief instead of a story, or perhaps nothing at all. Dont waste your readers time. Watch for the Unexpected No matter how it was sold, sometimes what you expected would be the most important story of a live event turns out to be dull: a non-event. Perhaps a side storyââ¬âa protest or something said unexpectedly by someone noteworthyââ¬ârises to center stage and becomes the better story. Grasp it. Keep your ears and eyes tuned and your mind open. Be willing to shift your focus, start over, and reorganize. Dont Cover Events Chronologically When enthusiastic newbie reporters cover their first live events, they often feel an urge to tell their readers everything: Afraid of missing something important, they cover the event as it happens, from beginning to end, starting with the roll call and the approval of the minutes. This is a classic mistake that most reporters quickly learn to avoid. Remember to be discerning: no one cares about the humdrum. Again, find the most interesting thing that happenedââ¬âit might be the last item on the agenda, or the very last thing saidââ¬âand put it at the top of your story. Include Plenty of Direct Quotesââ¬â¹ Good direct quotes are like a spice in a dish: They take the readers right there on the spot, give them a sense of the person who is speaking, and lend the story flavor, energy, and music. They also lend authoritativeness and credibility to stories involving public officials (whose career a quote can break). So, great quotes are essential to the fabric of a great story. Again, though, be discerning: Few people are worth quoting at great length. Try to pick out the jewelsââ¬âeither eloquent or important things said in a special way that you couldnt reproduce by paraphrasing, or, if appropriate, things poorly said that you want your readers to hear for themselves. Or things your readers wouldnt believe were said if they didnt have quote marks around them. If the quotes are humdrum and run long, cut and paraphrase. Add Color and Leave out the Boring Stuff Remember, youre a reporter, not a stenographer. Youre under no obligation to include in your story absolutely everything that happens at an event. If the school board members discuss the weather, its probably not worth mentioning (though if its all they discuss, that might be a good story). On the other hand, you are your readers eyes and ears: Color that gives the reader a sense of the scene can take your story from ordinary to memorable. Report with your senses.

In 1948, Ralph Melvin Stodgily said that in specific set of traits determined who would lead across the variety of different situations. As a result of his studies, he concluded that leadership was not the result of certain traits within the individual lone, but of the relationship between an individual and the social situation in which the individual found him or herself. In 1974, Stodgily conducted a second survey. His conclusion was based on a comparison of new studies with his original ones, was more balanced. His first survey implied that situation was the guiding factor in determining leadership; the second one concluded that both traits and situations determined leadership. James M. Souses and Barry Z. Poster made a major contribution to trait theory. In early sassââ¬â¢s more than 1500 managers responded to their survey in which they asked, ââ¬Å"What values do you look for in your superiors? Of the 225 values, characteristics, and attitudes compiled from the answers the top four were being honest, forward looking, inspiring, and competent. They called these being credible. It only shows that in a particular group or locality, an effective leader is needed in order for itsââ¬â¢ growth and progression. 2. 2 Literature Review An individual becomes noble when it shows great impact to its locality and is significant to its people. Nobility st ood for social superiority. It is a reward for service rendered to the state. It is a quality that the sovereign power imprints upon private errors, so as to raise them and their descendants above the other citizens, (Greenfield, 1992). Nobility was associated with good character, moral worth, magnanimity, and ethical goodness. Nobles thus united to one another and easily recognize by others, (Robinson, 2001). To be noble is to have political power. It is impossible to achieve noble status without first exercising considerable power to get there, (Poster, 2004, p. 110). Significance on the other hand is defined as the quality of being important and interaction between different levels of power: between formal and informal, the riveter and the state, the centre and localities, (Vine, 1995). As a baseball legend Jackie Robinson once noted ââ¬Å"life is not significant except for its impact on other livesâ⬠, (Maxwell, 2013). The researchers found these two words: nobility and significance are intertwined together. As the gathered various sources of data support that a person who is in a way influential and great is noble and significant. Now, how does history takes place in it? History is shaped through diverse events done by man in the earlier period which have great impacts to present time. History as well plays a vital role in the identity of man. It is the building of personal and collective identity through ââ¬Å"memoryââ¬â¢, the social, cultural, and political use and function of ââ¬Å"narrating the past,â⬠and the psychological structures of remembering, repressing, and recalling. Thus, a man is the product of his past. Whoever he is today is the result of the past he has. Filipinos of today are identified and linked to its olden times. It is said that great men in time were written in history. According to Great Man Theory, great man is a single, out-standing individual can emerge in a time of crisis and steer a nation to victory, (Bug, 2011). A great man shows greatness in his own way. Greatness equates to a constellation of character traits such as integrity, intelligence and self-confidence, (Bug, 2011). Many great Filipino men were penned in the past. The late Juan Assuming was one of them. He was a self-made man, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). He has done something larger than himself, and stories larger than his life that benefited the later generations. Just a Dreamer An article written on the Philippine Free Press defined Juan Assuming as a dreamer and an idealist, (Guerdon, 1938). He likes to plan quietly for an ideal state. He led a life dedicated to ideals of democracy, integrity, and selfless public service, Immense-Healer, 2001). Don Juan was considered as a successful seers and prophets, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). He was a man of foresight, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). He excelled in logical thinking and unbending attitude toward questions which in a way of thinking were crucial in the resolution of the Philippine problems, (Gecko, 1948). His Statesmanââ¬â¢s vision made him realize that while the nationalistââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ platform could win the votes of the people ââ¬â as, indeed, it was proved in the election for the Assembly in 1907 ââ¬â it would nevertheless disastrous to the people if implemented. He was realistic, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975, p. 182). Warrior of Democracy Don Juan is in a way the first and the last Antââ¬â¢. Due of his principles and beliefs he getting independence for the nation, (Guerdon, 1938). He was one of the eminent Filipinos who organized the first political party in the Philippines ââ¬â the Federal Party, for the purpose of promoting permanent invasion of the Philippines to the United States and its eventual admission as one of the States of the American Union, Gecko, 1948). Assuming came to be known as a supporter of the party. He sincerely believed that a step by step democratic system was good for the Filipino people. That, to achieve political independence it must coincide with economic independence as well. He knew it would take some time for the economy to be viable because of the Revolution and Filipino-American War, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). He gave full support in the restoration of peace and order after the Filipino-American war. Yet, the Federal Party found out that there was no favorable response to their appeal from the Filipino people so they decided to dissolve it, (Gecko, 1948). The dissolution of Federal Party gave way to birth of Progression Party or the Partied National Progression, Juan Assuming as the Vice-President, which platform was not immediate independence. Its goal was to achieve Philippine independence by progressive stages. On the other hand, the Nationalists Party of Guenon adopted the ââ¬Å"absolute, complete, and immediate Independenceâ⬠as platform and battle cry (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). The Progression party was accused of not favoring independence, (Gecko, 1948). The people wanted Juan Assuming to remises immediate independence but he did not say it because he believed it would be a lie if he did. So, the victory was easily won by the Nationalists Party again, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). In 1930 to 1931, Don Juan was in the United States as a member of the Philippine Independence Mission which presented before the U. S Congress the side of the Filipinos on the several bills which were then the forerunners of what was subsequently enacted as the Philippine Independence Act, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). When the first Philippine Independence Act, known as the Hare-Hawse-Cutting Act was enacted by the U. S Congress, Don Juan made a careful study of its provisions and opposed its acceptance by Filipinos. Due of its provision that even after the Philippines was granted the Independence it deserved, the United States would continue to exercise sovereignty over U. S military bases in the nation. He expressed his opposition in an article published in La Vanguard. Other men as well opposed the Hare-Hawse-Cutting Act listed as Guenon, Gondola, Recto and more. They became known as the ââ¬Å"Antââ¬â¢sâ⬠. Someone, Rosa, and others who were defending and favoring the Act were known as ââ¬Å"Prosâ⬠, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). In the election of 1934, Don Juan ran as the candidate of ââ¬Å"Antââ¬â¢sâ⬠as Senator in the fourth senatorial district. He got the sides of the people and the ââ¬Å"Antââ¬â¢sâ⬠became the party in power, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). Shortly after the election the Nationalists and the Democrat merged and created President and Senator Assuming as Vice-President. But the coalition and fusion of Nationalists and Democrat did not last, he went against Guenon when it came-up to him that the fusion of two parties would kill the opposition party necessary to preservation of democracy, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). All through the times of Senator Juan Summons life he was fighting for the democracy of the nation until the time he was bed-ridden, Immense-Healer, 2001). Before he got heat attack during the invasion of Japanese in the Philippines, he said that it was not right for the Filipino leaders to agree to any agreement as long as there were Filipinos fighting and dying in Bataan against Japanese occupation. He died loyal to his country, devoted to the cause of democracy, and seeking to always do what is right for his people, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975). He showed his love by making a tan and fighting for his own nation and his fellow Filipino. Filipinos Filipinos means love of the country. It is an appreciation of everything that is beautiful in our land. It is a feeling of oneness and togetherness with all our people irrespective of status, religion, or social position, (S. C, 1996, p. 74). In 1896, when the Philippine revolution against the Spain erupted Juan Assuming who was in his first year at the University of Stop. Atoms stopped his studies and joined and served as secretary of the revolutionary forces of Austin Nativity in Mormon Headquarters, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975, p. 73), Immense- Healer, 2001). During the Filipino-American war, Assuming was persuaded to support the American policy of pacification due to the possibility of blood-spattered and prolonged war that might convey more sufferings to the Filipinos, Immense-Healer, 2001). Throughout the times the Philippines was given the chance by the U. S congress to draft its own constitution, Assuming rejected the Joint Resolution No. Which received tremendous criticisms from the members of Assembly that revealed not only legalistic mind concerned with proper form but as well as nationalistic bent. This exposed his unstated belief that the Filipinos desired no less than independence, Immense-Healer, 2001, p. 54). It was for the good of people that he remained in the opposition, (Association, Philippine Historical, 1975, p. 182 ). Politician Don Juan involved himself in politics in 1901. He presents a unique profile off Filipino Politician, Immense-Healer, 2001, p. 170). Senator Juan Summons political success and immortality did not lie in having taken high positions in the government Assuming provided the Filipinos with a model for a new brand of politics. He believed that politics was not solely the pursuit of political power. Rather, it was a way by which the people could be informed and educated about the issues that mattered in their lives, Immense-Healer, 2001, p. 170). Serving the Filipino people and not winning was the primary goal of Juan Assuming when he ran for elections, Immense-Healer, 2001). Distinguished Men of Time Aside from Don Juan Assuming there were as well prominent Filipino men who fought and sacrificed their lives for the comfort and freedom the present generation is enjoying. Men who coincidentally, shared same principles, beliefs, love for the nation and fellowmen, and warriors of democracy, showed Filipinos, and as well Laotians. Evil B. The ââ¬Å"Impossible Dreamerâ⬠as known to his colleagues and friends was born October 31, 1942 in upland town of Hamlin, Antique. He studied at Atone University and became a member of LAB Party. He was a friend to Benign ââ¬Å"Ninnyââ¬â¢ Aquinas and they shared the same political dream: for democracy to flourish once again in the Philippines. He decided to run for Constitutional Convention when he realized that he had to e part of the political system in order to effect change, although he lost, the following year he ran for governor of Antique and became one of the youngest governors in the said province. In his campaign letter, he declared that he was running because he wanted to restore to people, especially children, the ability to dream. The children of his time adored him and were attracted to his idealism and charisma. His organization was his people and his bailiwick was the faith he induced in them. He pushed for people- centered, resource-based development long before the political structures and attitudes became ready for it. He worked under the constraints of Martial Law as a member of the opposition. In 1980, Nora recalled that when his brother Beaver) stepped down and asked what he will do after doing so, said ââ¬Å"l will continue to be a dreamer, I will continue to tilt against the windmillâ⬠. Xavier decided he could no longer serve under a regime whose laws and principles were in conflict with his morals. His family and lived in peace and ease. It was the assassination of his colleague, Ninny that Jolted Xavier out of Contentment and brought him back to Philippines. He said he has a role to play as a freeman not someone bound by Martial Law. Indeed in 1984, two years before his death, he ran for Antiqueââ¬â¢s lone Assemblyman Seat in Batsman Bananas. On May 13, the eve of the elections, seven of Saverââ¬â¢s campaign workers were crossing the Panning Bridge when they were ambushed from all sides by armed men. On the day of declaration of election winner, returns showed Xavier leading, until the returns from San Regimes, suspiciously wrapped in cement paper showed otherwise. Predictability, Pacification, Marcoââ¬â¢s ally, announced the winner. Xavier cried electoral fraud and filed a case but was dismissed by the Commission on Elections. So, he brought the protest to Supreme Court but again buried until 1986. There were times Xavier would lose hope, when he feared that Antique would never be free of its warlord politics and that the Philippines would always remain chaotic. But hope came when Marcoââ¬â¢s announced the holding of snap election. Carbon Aquinas declared her candidacy for president after supporters gathered one million signatures. Xavier decided to become Aquinas campaign manager in Antique. It was a decision that would cost him his life. On February 1 1, Xavier spent his morning at the Provincial Capitol, monitoring the invasion of election returns. When at 10:45 a. M. He was killed by six hooded men wielding 16 riffles. More than 50,000 Antiques wanted to see and mourn for him. It took 21 hours and 200 kilometers through 12 towns for his body to arrive at San Jose where he was buried on February 20. Killer Whales Essay Example For Students
Killer Whales Essay Whales are giant creatures that live in the sea. They look like fish, but arenot. Whales belong to the group of animals called mammals. Whales belong to thegroup of mammals called cetaceans, which comes from a Latin word meaning largesea animal. There are two major groups of whales. The first group is mysticeti(baleen whales), and the other isodontoceti (toothed whales). In the groupodontoceti, there is a family of whales called delphinidae (dolphins and smalltoothed whales). In this report, I will focus on a species of whale that comesfrom this family, and that species is the killer whale, or also known as orcinusorca, or just orca. The largest and most striking of the dolphin family, thekiller whale is one of the most fearsome predators of the deep. Killer whalesare basically the same shape as fish, but they differ in many ways. One of themost obvious differences is the tail fin. Fish have vertical tail fins, whilewhales have horizontal tail fins. One of the most distinctive featur es of orcasis the tall, wide dorsal fin located on its back. In females, the dorsal fin cangrow to about 2 feet high. It is falcate (hooked or curved). In males, thedorsal fin is triangular in shape and can grow up to about 6 feet high. Anotherdistinctive feature of killer whales is that they possess a sleek, black andwhite pigmentation pattern. A white patch is located above and behind the eye. An extensive white ventral patch extends onto the flanks (sides). There is agray saddle behind the dorsal fin, which is black at birth. (Hoyt, Pg. 32) Atbirth, orcas are about 2.1 to 2.4 meters long and weigh about 180 kilograms. When they are adults, males grow to about 9.5 meters long weighing 8 tons ormore. Females grow to 8.2 meters long and weigh 4-6 tons. Orcas have robustand graceful bodies with a conical or rounded head. (Hoyt, Pg. 97) It has nodistinct beak. They have straight mouthlines. Another physical attribute ofkiller whales, besides having a tall dorsal fin, is that killer whales havelarge, paddle-shaped flippers. These flippers are 2-3 times larger in males thanthey are in females. Killer whales are very large physical specimens. Beingknown as a fearsome hunter with killer instinct, it would be interesting to knowwhat a killer whales diet consists of. The orca resembles the great whiteshark in its predatory skill and range of food. They eat seabirds, turtles, fishes, including sharks, whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, and sea lions. These hunters feed in groups of two to twenty animals. They can even kill baleenwhales much larger then themselves. They have 10 to 13 teeth on each side ofeach jaw, which helps in their feeding. Though killer whales sometimes attackdolphins, seals, and other whales larger than themselves, but they have not beenknown to attack people, although there have been documented cases of killerwhale attacks. Throughout the ages, whales have lost some of the characteristicsof mammals. Mammals have hair covering their bodies. Whales have only a fewstiff hairs on their heads. Mammals have four legs. A whale has no hind legs. The only traces that they remain are two tiny hipbones. The front legs havedeveloped into flippers, which are used for steering or keeping its balance. Although killer whales share the same characteristics as mammals, they also havespecial features that allow them to live in the water. Whales have many specialcharacteristics suited for living in the water. Living in water enables them toreach enormous sizes. The buoyancy (lift) of water helps support a whalesbody, which makes it possible for them to grow larger. (Ellis Knoph,Pg.18) Orcas have a highly streamlined shape. This enables them to swim with aminimum of resistance. The powerful tail fins called flukes are horizontal. .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .postImageUrl , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:hover , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:visited , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:active { border:0!important; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:active , .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4a3fdf97a7bc9cb2f97bde90429d6dcb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Features Of International Business In Developing Countries Commerce EssayWhales swim by moving the flukes up and down. Another characteristic that ishelpful to killer whales, or any type of whale, is that a whales backbone, ribcage, and shoulder blades resemble those of other mammals. Almost all mammalshave seven neck vertebrae. In killer whales, these vertebrae are compressed intoa short length or joined together into one bone. This keeps the head from movingabout. It also joins the head directly to the body. Orcas have smooth, rubberyskin that easily slips through the water. Mammals have hair to keep them warm. Whales have only a few hairs on the head. To keep warm, they have a layer of fatcalled blubber. The blubber grows to about 6 inches thick never growing more. Ifthere is no food around or there is little food, killer whales can live offtheir blubber for a long time. Since blubber is lighter than water, thisincreases the buoyancy of whales. Much like their mammal brethren, whales havelungs and must come to the surface to breathe. They can hold their breath forlong periods of time. Their muscles store more oxygen than the muscles of othermammals. Orcas store 41 percent of their oxygen supply in the muscles. Whendiving, the body reduces the blood flow to the muscles, still keeping a normalflow to the heart and brain. The heartbeat slows helping to save oxygen. After adive, a killer whale must take several breaths to recharge its tissues withoxygen before diving again. When an orca comes up to breathe, it rolls forwardas it breaks the surface. This movement gives it only about two seconds to blowout and breathe in up to 2,100 quarts of air. They breathe through nostrilscalled blowholes. These are located at the top of the head. Orcas have oneblowhole. Powerful muscles and valves open the blowhole wide so the whales canbreathe. Then they snap tightly shut. A cloud called a blow or spout is producedwhen a whale exhales. It consists of water vapor. Sometimes it may include mucusand oil droplets. An interesting aspect of whales is that they utilize most ofthe five senses that humans use. The five senses are hearing, seeing, smelling, touching, and talking. Killer whales have no sense of smell and have pooreyesight. They have well-developed senses of touch and hearing. Their keenhearing provides them with information about their surroundings. (International Experts, Encyclopedia survey, 1988) They can hear a wide range ofsounds, including low-and high-pitched sounds that are beyond the range of humanhearing. They can also tell from what direction a sound is coming from. Killerwhales produce sounds within the nasal sac system, a series of air-filledpouches around the blowhole. They locate underwater objects by listening forechoes produced when the objects reflect the sounds. They determine the distanceand the direction of an object through the echoes. This is called echolocation. When researching any type of animal, it is also worth knowing the life span ofthe animal being researched. Knowing the life span of killer whales is usefulinformation that a researcher can later use. Knowing the life span of the killerwhale helps the researcher understand how the killer whale lives and how long itlives. The life span of killer whales is 50+ years for the males and 80+ yearsfor the females. Human hunters account for many of the deaths. Except forpeople, whales have no natural enemies. Most of the whales that escape thehunters harpoon live to old age and die of natural causes. Some orcas die afterstranding themselves on a beach. In some cases, a whale swims ashore alone. Inother cases, an entire pod of whales becomes stranded. People often returnbeached whales to the sea, but most swim back onto the beach. They cannot livelong out of the water. They may overheat, become crushed by their own weight, ordrown when the tide covers their blowholes. Another important aspect worthnoting is how killer whales reproduce. The way that killer whales reproduce isvery unusual as compared to other mammals or even other whales. Killer whalesmate during a specific season. The male, called a bull, and the female, called acow, engage in playful courting as part of the mating process. The whales strokeeach other with their flippers during courting. Females breed at 9 to 10 yearswhile males breed at 16 to 17 years. The gestation period or pregnancy periodlasts 13 to 17 months. A female will give birth every 10 years, sometimes every3 years. A whale has only one baby at a time. A baby whale is called a calf. .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .postImageUrl , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:hover , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:visited , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:active { border:0!important; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:active , .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0 .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6f7d07869b141da0576f12b5a38793e0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Diabetes And Types EssayTwins rarely occur. During birth one or more females may help the mother. Whalesare already giant animals at birth. Calves are born in fall and winter. They are8 feet long and grow 4 inches every month. As soon as the baby is born, themother nudges it to the surface to take its first breath. She stays close to itfor at least a year. During this year, the female will nurse her calf. She hasspecial breast muscles that pump milk into the babys mouth. Whale milk ishighly concentrated and rich in fat, protein, and minerals.
